Efficient Cook Course | SAMSA Certified
Course Description: This is a SAMSA certified course for those working on board ships. Under STCW-F, all cooks sailing on vessels over 24 meters require certification to operate as such. This course teaches you how to cook on board a ship, and how to manage a galley kitchen. Topics include cooking, budgeting, stores management and how to create substantial meals using minimal tools and a lean pantry. We also focus on personal hygiene, cooking hygiene and the dangers in the kitchen. This a must for every cook.
Duration: 20 Days
Entry Requirements: (1) be at least 18 years of age; and (2) have completed approved training and met the standards of competence specified in the Code; and (3) have at least three months sea service in the catering department on any of the following kinds of ships: (a) trading ships of 100 GT or more on unlimited or near-coastal voyages; (b) fishing vessels required to have an efficient cook onboard.
Additional Requirements: We have class rooms to accommodate a maximum of 6learners. A fully equipped galley is available to assist with the practical component. We include a light lunch with this course.
Accreditation: Accreditation through SAMSA. STCW 78 as amended in 2010 with the Manila amendments.
