Skipper Fishing Grade 4 Course (under 24-meters)
Course Description: For Coastal navigation as Skipper on a fishing vessel less than 24 meters in length you need to take charge of every situation. We will teach you the specific set of skills required to do collision avoidance, take charge of crew, effectively communicate, operate and maintain your vessel, ensure safe stability conditions and to protect the environment. Some of the subjects covered are Chart work, Marine Environmental Studies, Naval Architecture etc.
Duration: 35 Days
Entry Requirements: Consist of, but are not limited to, SAMSA medical certificate, eyesight test, seaman’s book and sea service. Proof of ancillary courses to be provided, or alternatively attended at SSTG. English proficiency is a must, with Mathematics and Science at Grade 12 (between 50 and 60%) as beneficial.
SAMSA Classifications: Skipper Fishing <24m or Fisherman GRD 4, Skipper Fishing >24m or Fisherman GRD 2
Additional Requirements: We have classrooms to accommodate a maximum of 20 learners in one classroom.We include a light lunch with this course.
Accreditation: SAMSA application in progress as per proposed STCW-F.
