Safety Officer Fishing Vessels over 25GT Course

Course Description: Safety Officers perform a very important function on board a vessel. Other than the Master, Fishing Vessel Owners should appoint certified personnel on board their Fishing Vessels to ensure that they are operated safely. This course qualifies the learner to fulfil the role of Safety Officer, whose responsibilities include: Occupational Health and Safety, Meetings, Investigations, Permits to Work, Lockouts, Safe Work Procedures, Drills, etc. The Safety Officer must also ensure that crew meet all safety standards while performing their duties, whilst wearing the correct PPE.
The Safety Officer will have the power to stop any work on board that he deems dangerous, control any hazardous tasks, inspect all safety appliances and equipment, and can order a vessel to stay in port if he/she finds the vessel unsafe to proceed to sea. During this course, you will learn how to conduct these various tasks, and how to execute your duties effectively.
